Directory of Lledo Diecast Miniatures |
The identity numbers used to identify models are the ones that were assigned by Lledo
when the models were first conceived. These numbers were used in the factory schedules, in the Lledo catalogues and on the end flaps
of the later boxes. The same numbering system was adopted by RDP in their models guides with the addition of a suffix letter to signify
variations (e.g of colour or other details such as textured roof etc..).
The number consists of the letters DG, LP, SP, SL, MP, VA, VP or PM followed by the model type number. For example: DG008 = 1920 Model T Ford Tanker. There are a further
three digits which refer to the livery. For example: DG013 048 = Hamleys 1934 Model A Ford Van.
The first livery of each model type was always allocated the identity "000", but, because of certain production changes it was not
uncommon for model identities to be out of sequence and for some identities to be skipped where liveries were planned but not produced.
Lledo Days Gone range were not made to any specific scale and you will find that they bear a striking resemblance to Matchbox models, which is hardly surprising given the fact
that the founder of Lledo, Jack Odell was one of the original team who brought us the world renowned Lesney toys.
The following will initially be a guide to identifying model type and the year of initial release and will grow with time. Eventually, however, the plan is to
list all code 1 and code 2 models made during the Lledo days prior to the company being bought out. Where possible, a photograph will be provided of
an example of each model.
We welcome any comments or photographs from collectors who may wish to share them with us and we will give credit to the contributors.

DG006 1920 Model T Ford Van |

The sixth of the original market launch of 1983. This is the most popular Lledo model and the production numbers have far outstripped all others. The casting has undergone a number of strengthening changes over time and because of its popularity the original die had to be retired due to wear. In 1984 the height of the headboard was increased to aid printing. 1986 saw an attempt to reduce the door outline for better tampo printing which actually resulted in the door outline being completely removed for a while. A new textured roof and steering wheel appeared in 1989. The model is still as popular now as ever. |
